What once was West Virginia State Route 507 is
one of Weirton's and the Northern Panhandle's biggest road secrets.
Seeing birth in the mid 1970's, WV 507 took over the routing of US 22 Alternate
as the US 22 Freeway moved into West Virginia from Pennsylvania (See 1974
Map). By the late 70's, WV 105 took over for the original US 22 and
WV 507 was posted on what was once US 22 Alt ending on a temporary US 22
that would be moved onto a new freeway not until the 1990's.
WV 507 had ran along Cove Hill Road and ending at US 22 on the north shore of Harmon Creek. US 22 was along a 'temporary' alignment beginning at what would become the Cove Hill Road Interchange along Cove Hill Road until returning to its original alignment and WV 2 at Main Street (See 1978 Map). From there, US 22 would follow Main Street and Freedom Way to the Ohio River and into Ohio. When the US 22 Freeway was completed in the 1990s into Ohio, US 22 was removed from Cove Hill, Main Street, and Freedom Way. By the 1990's WV 507 would be omitted from WVDOH maps on the Weirton inset. (See 2000 Map Below)
