Route 51 is one
of the more important surface highways in Southwest Pennsylvania.
It serves as the main connection between the Mon Valley and Fayette County
to Pittsburgh. The 1930's saw PA 51 become a critical conduit to
routes to the South Hills. It was the original link for Beaver County
into Pittsburgh. Today, PA 51 is one of the most heavily used routes
in the region.
