The US 17 Bypass of Myrtle Beach was opened in the early 1980's.  The bypass from Restaurant Row to US 501 had been opened by at least 1975 and was then known as SC 317. (Image right)

In the 1950's, US 29 was moved on to a super-two alignment from Lyman northeast to the North Carolina State Line.  The former alignment would become US 29A.  (see map below).  This highway would be upgraded to Interstate 85 in 1959.
