The map shows PA 77 original alignment which of course was changed to end at Corry in the late 70's. PA 426 took over 77's alignment from Spring Creek to it's current day Southern Terminus at PA 27. The nine mile section of PA 77 from the then Southern Terminus of PA 277 to Spring Creek has been decommissioned completely.
Here David shows what was the Southern Terminus of PA 426 at then PA 77 in Spring Creek, a crossroads. Obviously, Old PA 77 is clearly marked as the old road winds its way westward to PA 77 near Spartansburg. David provides his theory on possibly why PA 277 was decommissioned and the alignments of PA 77 and PA 426 were changed "The nine miles between of PA 77 that was decommissioned is an extremely hilly and narrow road and it stands to reason why it was routed to Corry instead."
This photo from David shows the northern terminus of PA 277 which is the current eastern terminus of PA 77. This is located in Corry at PA 426. Below is a photo of what was the Southern Terminus of PA 277 in Spartansburg.
East PA 77 from this point to Corry was North PA 277. Fortunately, the historical routing of PA 77 is also shown at this intersection, as it is at PA 426 in Spring Creek. Below, David has a photo of one of what appears to be a homemade 'OLD ROUTE 77' sign. However, he notes that there are a number of similar signs noting Old Route 77 in this area.
The school bus is on PA 77 East. Over 30 years ago, it would be continuing North on PA 277. A right turn by the bus would be continuing on East PA 77.
Here is the historical eastern terminus of PA 77 and current day southern terminus of PA 426 at PA 27 near Garland.
