A very important piece
to Charlotte's transportation puzzle, the southwest corner of the Outerbelt
allows traffic from the south and west to bypass Interstate 77 through
the city. It also removed many trucks from Billy Graham Parkway -
a surface route that served as an 'unofficial' I-77 to I-85 bypass and
is the main route to Charlotte-Douglass International Airport. The
ten mile corner was opened in three parts with the final seven miles cleared
for traffic on October 19, 2004.
Exit 3 to Exit 10 opening - October 19 2004:
The newly opened section consists of the completion
of the Arrowood Road Interchange (Exit 3), an interchange with NC 160 (Exit
4), Wilkinson Blvd. (Exit 9) and I-85 (Exit 10). This section now
brings additional access to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
