Carolina Lost: Service Stations
Scattered throughout rural and urban North Carolina, abandoned service stations can be frozen in time.  They seem to hold onto years past while in some cases the fast paced modern world passes them by.  The old abandoned stations which still hold momentos of the past makes you want to stop and think, what was this old gas station like when it was the main stop before the Interstate.

Service Stations:

Midway Service Center/Harte's Garage: Located on US 158 Business between Oxford and Henderson.  Photographer: William Lawson; June 13, 2007. 

This old service station's exterior has been kept in excellent condition.  A local gentleman still operates an auto mechanic shop on Saturdays here.  Also one of the outer buildings holds laundry facilities for local residents.
Super 6: Located on NC 214 in Bolton.

This abandoned gas station and convenience store still has its old gas pumps and some advertisements.

The sign over the entrance to the old Super 6 reads "Beverages Cold To Go!" and "Party Time Is Any Time"
Former Phillips 66 Service Station: Located on NC 16 near Denver.

This former Phillips 66 station is in incredible shape.  The Phillips 66 banner over the two garage doors is a great touch.  In addition, there is an old Coke machine and numerous old calendars on the one door.  The restrooms were located in a small building to the left of the station.

Fuel Pizza is a local Charlotte Pizza chain that has converted a few former service stations into pizza shops.

This pump was actually installed by Fuel Pizza.  This was actually a PUROL station that dates back to the 1930's.  It was run by Harold Mooney. (1)
