The US 70 NC Roadtrip
Sept. 16, 2000

Business US 64/70 shields in Morganton. Notice the old US 70 shield.

I know it's next to impossible to see, but the green sign says US 64/70.
Why is this a problem? Well, US 64 was moved off US 70 about ten
years ago. :-)

The pics from this point aren't specifically from the trip, but they fit
in anyway. This is an I-40 NC shield along Hillsborough St near the
state fairgrounds.

These warning signs are all along I-40 west of Raleigh. The same
style is used on I-440 in Raleigh, along I-40 up Black Mountain east of
Asheville, and I-85 between Greensboro and Hillsborough.

A dual mileage/kilometer sign along the Durham Freeway southbound.

And a big ol' NC 147 shield. NC 147 and the Durham Freeway are the
same thing, by the way. :-)

BGS near the I-40/Wade Ave. split northeast of Cary. Wade Ave. was
I-40 until 1985 or so, and today Wade runs past Carter-Finley Stadium and
the Entertainment and Sports Arena, home of the Carolina Hurricanes.

An old I-40 shield near RDU Airport. This is probably an original
from when I-40 was completed through here in 1973.
