Decommissioned
GA 175 - Lanier and Lowndes Counties
Long forgotten,
the GA 175 designation has been dormant for nearly four decades.
GA 175 first arrived in the 1940's running from US 84 in Naylor (near where
GA 135 intersects US 84). From Naylor, 175 ran north into the southwest
corner of Lanier County across what is now US 221 then east and back into
Lowndes County to GA 125 in Barretts. In the mid-1950's, with the
expansion of Moody Air Force Base, GA 175 was cut back to end at US 221.
In 1969, the rest of GA 175 was taken off the map when it was decommissioned.
Today, the former Southern Terminus
is located at the intersection of Upper Grand Bay Road and US 84 in Naylor.

Upper Grand Bay Road (former GA 175)
meets US 84 in Naylor.

The dirt road is just wide enough for
two lanes of traffic. The quality of the dirt road deteriorates in
Lanier County.

Becky says there's not much to Upper
Grand Bay road. She saw five home sites and did not face any traffic
in either direction on the five mile stretch of road. If you have
any other photos or information on the former GA 175, please
e-mail me.
